Thanked: 0New guy from North Carolina checking in
Had my first shave with my new straight this morning. Only did with the grain, and across the grain on my cheeks before finishing with my DE. I can happily say no nicks or cuts at all!!!
Gonna keep this routine for a while until I get better control.
Excited to be new here and extend my love for shaving!

Hi and welcome. Stick to the plan and you will find yourself with full shaves before long and less of the blood letting razor burn misery that most of us inflict on ourselves trying to do to much to quickly. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Thanked: 4827Welcome. I have to say no nicks is a good start. Keep at it and work through your learning curve one step at a time and 30 or so shave into it you will have a big chunks of the learning done and by 100 you should be shaving like you have been doing it forever.

Hi & welcome to SRP. Great to have you here. It sounds like you're off to a good start. The most important thing to know when using a straight is knowing how to strop right. Do you have a strop? You can practice with a butter knife to keep from cutting up a good strop. Also we'd love to see your straight razor. There's plenty of good information here, so absorb it like a sponge. If you don't know this yet, just go to the beginners guide & start there in the Library:

Good luck!

Thanked: 0I did the same steps today, slow and steady and finished with my saftey razor.
I bought my razor and strop from Straight Razor Designs, and I was looking and studying for about a month before I took the plunge.
I bought a 5/8 Dovo Best Quality, and the Modular Paddle strop as well. Thinking if I do cut the strop I can always get a replacement pad once I get it down, and it should be more than enough to grow into, and it cuts the variables down while learning to strop.
Now my biggest battle is the learning curve, but only time and patience will get me past that.
