Hi John & welcome to SRP. Sorry I'm late to the party. I've had doctors appointments, physical therapy & such. You can find information here on DE razors & there are members here that use them so they can help you out with any questions you might have. You can also use the advanced search for DE razors & shaving. An adjustable De razor would most likely be right for you because most have 9 settings on them depending on the shave you want. I have a vintage Merkur & also a vintage Gillette Fatboy. I use them once in a great while but I mainly use a straight. If you shop around on eBay, you can sometimes find good deals on them but make sure you get one in good condition. How much are you willing to spend?

Well folks I wanna say this PIF mentality has been caught. I think based off of the generosity of Birnando; Mr. Stove has chosen to pass it on. I was on this site last night in one thread for a little over two hours asking many noob questions when this gentleman offered to send me my very first safety razor free of charge. I really have to say. I have been part of many different forums from trucks to guns and all in between and you people are the finest. I will do my best to pass on my hand-me-downs as I figure out what I like the most.
So to answer your question Mr. Engine, I think I will be good for a little bit until i can figure out if this is the kind of thing I am into.
Thanks again,
John

Hi John
I just got in a few minutes ago from the grocery store & Walgreens. I needed some things plus I had to pick up a prescription from the doctor. I was involved in an accident on my Harley in December when a drunk driver pulled out in front of me. While I was out, I thought I had a razor here at home & when I got home, I found it, a 1962 Gillette Flare Tip razor that needed cleaning up so I cleaned it up real quick & was going to offer it to you for nothing but I see someone beat me to it, most likely Birnando. He is a valuable member here & I owe him a favor. I might be having to drive my wrecked Harley around for now until I fix it but I still like to help people out. Do you have a shaving mug? I have an Old Spice shaving mug I'll give you if you need one.

That's fine. I thought I would offer one to you. I have a few I bought from a guy on Craigslist.
My dad was in the Air Force in WWII. He was in a fighter group & flew the P-47 Thunderbolt. He was a radio repairman but he also flew on missions I'm sure. He never talked about death. He did tell me of the times they would escort bombers over occupied territory or Germany to bomb places like ball bearing plants & such, things they needed & they need bearings for everything just about. I have some really cool pics from then. He saw some bad things & was injured twice & got two purple hearts. He didn't want me to join & the draft had just ended right before it was my time but I regret not going behind their backs & joining. I went behind my parents backs to buy my first motorcycle. He had a Harley in his younger years & got into an accident when a man ran a red light & almost had to have his leg amputated. After I bought my first motorcycle, he helped me to buy a basket case for me to build my first Harley. He was a great man! I miss him dearly.
Thank you for your services to our country!

Thanks for the thanks. Your dad more than likely saw things I don't hope to see but he is a patriot. Your honor of him is commendable. Continue it. I will let you know how I like the slim and if I can use one i will let you know. Rock on you guys this forum is awesome.

John,
Hopefully you will be patient with the Slim and get hooked like the rest of us. Then we can spend years talking about the finer points of shaving -- lol. If your like me, it wont be long until you have a collection of straight razors and looking for a home for that Gillette.
I started wet shaving last year and Ive been using a straight almost daily for 8 months. I used to hate to shave, now it is the high point of my day. I even shave on Saturday and Sunday because I enjoy it.
It is a strange hobby, but unbelievably satisfying and the people, at least here are the best.
Happy shaving!
