Hi and welcome. A 12k synthetic is the best path to take. As said a second shave ready razor wouldn't go astray either as a benchmark for your touch ups and as a backup. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome. You are in an area that has access to meets on a regular basis, or at least within driving distance. I would say don't buy anything until you have been to at least one meet. The beauty of being close to so any senior members, mentor and pro honers is you can get to try many edges from many hones and eventually get one that you really like, then at a meet get to know who nd how your razor was honed and go from there. At the meets guys bring all kinds of stuff and you will get tons of exposure.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Also, what meets are there in the city? I've lived here all my life and never knew there was this kind of stuff going on...
