Default Looking for my first straight razor in the Republic of Texas

I've been DE shaving for about a year, and have seen a lot of folks using a straight razor on another forum. So I have started to look for one. I'm into Vintage Gillette DE razors and want a vintage straight. After doing research I've landed on a 5/8 round nose full hollow, as a good start. Of course the one I'm interested in happens to be the very popular Dubl Duck Goldedge. I'm patient, and will find a good one in time. So for now I'll be looking at all the beautiful razors here and learning this new skill set.

    Welcome ObiDon to SRP

There is a nice one in the classifieds here. If you have patience (which I don't) you will find one.

    Good luck

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!

You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!

If you take the time to search, 99.9% of your questions can be found in the Library (WIKI) however feel free to ask us about whatever it is that you are wondering about or having a problem with. It does help if you’ve done some research before hand so it narrows the problem down a bit.

Can you narrow down your location a bit as that is a large state and there are some experienced members who might be close enough to give you some hands on help and Hands On Learning Can't Be Beaten when learning this age old art.

It's a long strange road but well worth the journey

    Again, Welcome!

Welcome. Keep an eye on the classifieds here. There are some very nice razors at very good prices in there on a regular basis, they often move fast so check regularly.

Hi and welcome aboard. Personally I would start with something a little more plain Jane so my newb mistakes wouldn't mattet so much as it would be a shame to harm a beautiful razor like the dd. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Well after A Lot of Soul Searching, and IF you could consider a 9/16+ Square Point Double Duck #1 in custom scales I can get you down the road N/C.

It will come shave ready, all you would need to do is rinse the protective oil off and after your pre-shave prep you can have your first straight razor shave; you will need to already have a strop for keeping it sharp for future shaves.

    Let me know your thoughts

Thank you very much for your generous offer. I'm a little fearful of the square points to begin my SR shaving, based on everything I've read.

Take cudarunner up on his very generous offer. Just go slow and remember each pass is about beard reduction without applying pressure. Here are some nice videos to watch before you first Dubi Duck straight razor shaving experience.
