    Default New member, checking in!

    Hello everyone!

I first stumbled across this site about a year and a half ago while searching for information on traditional wet shaving. I read through a lot of threads here, and at the time thought a straight razor was a little too much for me to handle. So I jumped in with a DE and have been loving it ever since. But the curiosity of straight razor shaving has been drawing me in more and more lately and I'm thinking of finally taking the plunge!

Just a little bit more about myself; I'm a graduate student in engineering, and I tend to like things the "old fashioned way." Fountain pens, vinyl records, and classic shaving are a few of the things that confuse my friends and family.

This seems like an enormously friendly site, and I am definitely looking forward to being around!

    Welcome to SRP Guitarguy118
There is a tremendous amount of information and experience here as you seem to know. Any questions as you start the straight journey please ask. Most of all - enjoy!

Welcome, there are many people here who hold the same ideals (I have about 17,000 vinyl records, smoke pipe, wind my watch every day and play guitar)!

17,000 records! sheesh, that's a lot! I have ~200 right now and am running low on shelf space.

Hi and welcome. Coming from a de you will find the transition easier as stropping and actually using a straight is all you need to pick up. You will find it easier than you think once you get started. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Im hoping the transition won't be too difficult, as I have already learned (the hard way) the importance of good lather and no pressure!

    Welcome from SE Washington State.

Well since you do seem to have learned the importance of pre shave, lathering and No Pressure, you should be ready to start down the rabbit hole.

You will need a shave ready straight razor and a strop. The Illinois 827 is my choice for right after honing, and it's reasonably priced. The Straight Razor Designs are a lot more money but they have the advantage of having interchangeable strops so if you (Wait! Did I say 'IF" sorry When you cut your strop) you can replace it or you can try different leathers and cloths.

The Classified usually have what I consider beginner level razors. Sometimes I have some available/anyway starting out with a Shave Ready Razor is the only way to go. It takes so many of the variables out.

It's a long strange trip but it's well worth the journey.

    Again, Welcome

OH! Please stay away from FleaBay until you start to understand what you are looking for. Way too much garbage out there for sale
