Default Hello from Wyoming Michigan, U S A.

For some silly reason I got the bug to start shaving the "manly"way. I had a long talk with my barber about it and he actually tried to talk me out of it! Across the parking lot from the barber is a new antique shop. I walked in and the first thing I found was a straight razor! I bought it and here I am. I've used it three times and only shed blood once!

Welcome another Michigan member! I am in Lansing now, but lived in Allendale and GR for several years. Lots of good info on here, you will lose hours of your life reading everything on here What kind of straight did you get? Post some pics if you get a minute.

Hi and welcome. I hope you had the razor pro honed otherwise you are missing out on what can be the best shaving experience. A sharp razor can be shaved with but doesn't compare to a truly shave ready edge. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome, I am just south of you in Kazoo. Have the razor honed by a pro, read, watch videos and most of all enjoy.

Thanks everyone! The only thing printed on my straight is "Extra Hollow Ground Sheffield ".
I've been sharpening woodworking tools for a decade that includes carving and lathe tools.
I learned what SCARY SHARP really means. Sometimes that education has been painful.
I was reminded just a few minutes ago that the blade is not to be drawn lengthwise across the neck. Thank God for stiptic! Darn second blood!

Welcome to SRP!! Sounds like you are well on your way with a lucky find!! I had a Barber as a patient once and he hated SR's as well... ?? Maybe it is the added steps that slows their process down which accounts for that dislike with some but, still kinda weird.

it was the heavier sheffields that I really learned to shave with straights with. Now I use the german razors as well as ones made here in the usa. good luck on you journey with straights. as another person as said read watch enjoy.
