New Member From Illinois
Greetings gents,
I'm Rich from Illinois. I am a retired senior who just recently started straight razor shaving. When I first started shaving in the 60s I got my first shave with a Gillette Superspeed. Over the years I tried every new thing to come out on the market. About four years ago I returned to DE and started enjoying the hobby with many others. I kept thinking about straights and so, about a year ago, I started using shavettes which I really learned to like. Nevertheless, I kept thinking about real straight razors. I had a few that I picked up at various antique stores plus a couple that were my grandfathers. Finally I couldn't take it any more and ordered a Norton 4k/8k and a nice strop. I gave honing my best shot after studying many videos on the subject and began my venture this past Monday. Today was my third shave with a straight and it went really well. Each day got a little better after working on the edge a bit each day. Enough said! I'm very happy to be a part of "Straight Razor Place" and look forward to learning and sharing with this great group.

Hi and welcome. Any questions feel free to ask. Hope you started with one of the antique store finds and not your grandfathers. Leave them till after all the beginner's mistakes and you have learned to hone properly.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome! Besides videos, there's a ton of great info in the Library here at SRP also. You're off to a great start. I wish I had gotten even one good shave in my first dozen!
Keep your pivot dry!

Hello, Rich, and welcome to Straight Razor Place. I am not sure what part of Illinois you're located, but if you need mentoring and live close enough to Milwaukee, you're welcome to stop by my chateau for personal training.

Hi Rich & welcome to the best knowledgable forum in the world! You will find that many here are more than happy to be of some help at anytime.
A word of advice. If you get those family heirlooms & they are in good condition, send them out for a pro honing & only use them once in a great while because they are an heirloom & can be passed down. Use one you buy for daily use. Many times some have had heirlooms & accidentally drop them or bump them into the faucet chipping the blade, then ya wanna just sit down & cry!
Good luck. There is a fortune of information on here, just browse around & you will see!
