    Default Greetings from Arizona!

    Hi there!

My name is Zach. I am 27 years old. Originally from Los Angeles, California but have spent the last few years in Arizona.

My current fascination with wet shaving (and straight razors specifically) began initially in 2003, when as a teenager I saw the second matrix film. 'Nuff said bout that. Fast forward past my eighteenth birthday (when Gilette sent me a free version of whatever iteration they were on at the time)…past age twenty one when I finally began growing manly facial hair…to this past fall when I wandered into an Art of Shaving store at the local mall.

On a quick side-note; TAOS carries high quality products but their prices are exorbitant, and their employees can be hit or miss but overall are helpful. But more than anything, TAOS makes straight razor shaving accessible. Whereas before a person would, most likely, have to buy a razor from an on-line retailer and then teach themselves via YouTube videos and such…they can now walk into a store at their local mall where they can actually handle a razor and speak to a person.

My thirst for everything straight razor quickly outgrew TAOS and that's where SRP comes in. This community and its collective knowledge reminds me of M4carbine.net and how much time I spent there when I was building my first AR. I've been spending almost every spare moment of my time browsing the sub-forums here. And I've also been spending way too much time & money building my eBay feedback. But no joke, I'm suffering from a serious case of RAD that's not even funny. I just love how straight razors have grown from tools into pieces of functional artwork that are just as if not more relevant than they were when introduced. But anyways...wow this post has dragged on...just wanted to introduce myself and say a quick thank you for how helpful you all have been thus far and say that I'm looking forward to my time here in the future. Thanks so much!

Well welcome. Great story and you're on a good path. There are several experienced members in Arizona, so if you add your city to your public profile, you're likely to get some input from those nearby.

I went to AOS only after I had been to SRP and my experience wasn't as positive as yours. At the store I visited, the staff knew almost nothing about their products, but I'm fairly fully supplied, so I wasn't really too interested anyway...just curious and hopeful.

As you continue your journey ask plenty of questions here and share your views, successes and concerns or problems. you'll be sure to get a lot of well informed responses.

    Again, welcome!
    Just call me Harold

Welcome aboard Zach. As you see, there is a wealth of information on here & i too have had RAD but I have learned pretty much to control it a few months back. Now I buy a straight every now n then. I have slacked of quite a bit. I wrote an article on here about RAD but either not many cared for it or they didn't see it. Here it is if you would like to see it:

Just take it easy, you can get what you want over time & not right away. We joke around about RAD & it's all good but it can become out of control. I'm sure if you have it, you may have acquired some that are nice & we'd love to see them. Like Willis said, ask questions..................you will always get an answer & there is plenty of knowledgable & helpful people on here.
    Good luck my friend!

Welcome to SRP. There are a lot of members here in Arizona, what part of the state do you live in? If you are able to meet up with member it will shorten the learning curve for all things straight related.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

I'll second the motion to have you let us know where you are in Arizona. I have a friend who might be able to help. But I can't try to put you two together if I don't know where you are located.

Thanks ReardenSteel & cudarunner! I'm in phoenix, and I spend most of my time in and around scottsdale. Yeah I would really jump at the opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts in the valley! There are a couple local businesses that I've taken razors to but that's it. Thanks again!
