Thanked: 0Just got a starter kit
I've been looking into shaving with a straight razor for some time thought if not now then when. I've been looking at custom straight razors for the future I'm really liking the non folding (kimasori) razors my favorite ones are from sage blade so far.

Hi and welcome. You may want to start with something a little less expensive and less learning curve to start until the rookie mistakes have all been made. Any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome to SRP! Remember this time when you have just 'one' razor that you are primarily coveting rather than dozens of Razors, gaggles of Strops, oodles of Soaps and drooling over the latest Eyebrow Wax.
On second thought... Ya know it's not too late to just walk away and live life a'la Dan Haggerty. :-)
Totally kidding... Enjoy the ride and the subsequent credit card statements as it is totally worth it!!

Thanked: 2I too just bought my first kit. Mine contained a Dovo Best Quality Straight, Strop, Shave Paste, pre-shave oil, not so fancy cup, brush and a nick stick....that I kept close. As I've only shaved six times with this razor the more I use it the more it seems to be like riding a motorcycle the first few times. As I get comfortable...a.k.a. complacent, mistakes happen. Today was my first nick, I blame the ingrown hair for it, but I was actually trying to be more speedy with the blade before I became proficient with it. Like on a motorcycle, the new rider is simple trying to survive from point A to point B. As you get more comfortable you will push yourself a bit and check for new angles that fit your face easier/better.
Start with any straight and learn it. Each straight will have it's pos/neg's....a close shave is the goal!
