Thanked: 6Greetings
Hello to you all.
ALthough I have had a previous dalience with SRs. I have again become interested. Perhaps my upcoming mandatory retirement is a factor. I think the struggle to learn a new skill is appealing; or, maybe I just like to bleed! At this point I consider it all magic and my meager honing success will be chalked up to luck...or voodoo.
I have only shaved with a SR 5 times but I seem to be improving. My straights are still not as comfortable as my DE. I have had one razor honed by a pro and purchased a new Hart Steel meat cleaver. I have only sharpened one blade that can achieve the same results, purely accidental. I have already garnished some valuable info from this site that I hope to put into practice.
This seems like a rather personable enviroment.

Welcome to SRP.
Now that you will have time on your hands you can visit with members in your area. There a couple in Texas.
Here is a link to find them.

Welcome to SRP!
There are lots of members in Texas and several nearby to you if my memory is correct. Try and meet up with some of them, a few hours with an experienced shaver will bring you up to speed a lot faster than reading and watching videos. Of course, checking out the beginner's section in the library is always a good idea for reading.
And of course, feel free to ask questions. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Welcome to SRP! Honing, like shaving, is a skill that takes a little time to develop. Lots of good info in the library section. The right stones(especially a good bevel setter) will make learning much more enjoyable.
