    Default A Few Introductions

Good day to everyone, my name is Joe, I started my my classic shaving experience a few years back with an "As Seen on TV" DE... We don't need to name it because we all know which one. I enjoyed the shave but, I'm sure like most, I couldn't get enough of the pursuit of the smoothest shave technique... And then, while traveling, I stopped by the local barber and decided to get a face shave, he used a trusty shavette, but that was enough for me. I am currently using a stainless steel shavette, waiting to get home where I have a Dovo and a Top Flight SE. I bought the Top Flight from jons-swords.com which I mention due to his large selection of vintage and antique razors that still have a lot of life to them! Prices are good and the customer service has been fantastic!

Hi and welcome aboard. Has the dovo been pro honed or does it have the factory edge. If the factory edge send it out to a pro for honing. Have a good read through and most of your questions will be answered but if unsure just ask you will not lack for help

Welcome to SRP, Please do yourself a favor and read heavily and Shave Ready by a pro is the Most important thing a new Gent can know except for 1 1/2 or less spine width for the proper angle to start the shaving stroke, ask me how I know.

Hi Joe. I don't know if you did an introduction back in April, I don't see one so I thought I would welcome you to SRP & give you some tips. First since you are just now going to start using a straight, you might check the Beginners Guide if you haven't yet which you will find in the Library at the top. Also here is a link you might want to check out:

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...ead-first.html

You might also want to do some searching to see if there is anyone near you who can help you or mentor you along by going here:

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/memberlist.php?do=search

You will learn plenty & the Top Flight is a nice straight. You will find that a shave with a straight is much better than a shavette. You will get a much smoother, closer shave with one plus the enjoyment of a good shave as well. You will of course need a strop & you can practice stropping with a butter knife so that you don't cut a new strop up or dull the edge of a shave ready straight. Should you cut your strop, you can sand it out or glue it back with super glue (CA) or some rubber cement. You will need to make sure is that your straight razors are shave ready & if not, it would be a good idea to send one out to a pro to hone it. Then once you get that one back, if the other one needs it as well, you cans then send it out so you won't be stuck w/o one. You'll need a good brush , soap & mug also but you will find these things are great, especially when you begin to try different soaps or shaving creams & after shaves.
    Good luck my friend!
