Oh yes, absolutely. A DE or single edge is a great starter that way. I went from cartridge to DE to straight.
If she has a blind spot, I'd definitely work with a DE until she's comfortable enough to feel like she can shave without looking all the time. That's when I moved up to a straight.
She will love the DE compared to cartridge for sure. But, I'd suggest she try multiple blades until she finds the ones that are perfect for her skin. Also, I'd suggest she use actual wet shaver soap too, not shaving cream. I started with shaving cream, but honestly, it wasn't slick enough and ended up not being worth it. When I started using shave soap for wet shaving, I found my match! :-)
She's more than welcome to ask me anything too, or anyone I'm sure. I kind of lurked on forums and dove in.
