    Default Hello from Virginia

I have been reading and studying straight razors for several months. I have been shaving with DEs for over 2 years. Last night, I finally dove in and purchased my first straight - a hopefully barely used Ralf Aust 5/8.

Thank you for all of the helpful information on this site. I hope to be able to give something back when I gain some experience.

Welcome to the wealth of knowledge that is SRP, don't be afraid to ask questions. As long as that razor came in shave ready it'll be a great starter, I have the same one. You will need a strop, however, if you don't already have one. Best of luck and enjoy it.

    Welcome aboard!

There is a learning curve, and you will, at first, not be able to get as good of a shave from your straight as you did you DE. Dont let that discourage you... keep at it, and you'll be good as good in no time!

    Welcome to SRP!
I hope your research included the beginner's section on the site here. If it didn't, then read through it.
If you have any questions, then ask away.

Welcome! That's a good choice for your first straight, I have the same razor in my rotation. Feel free to ask questions and have fun!

Hi Denis & welcome aboard. I see you gat a Ralf Aust, very good razor. There is one on eBay & i just looked & it is still there so I know you didn't get it from there but it is just a tad less than what it goes for on Straight Razor Designs plus the one from SRD comes shave ready & you get a free honing with it when it needs it. I hope it still has the edge on it & it is possible that Lynn honed it if it originally came from SRD. I hope you have a strop with it because if not, you will need one asap. You can also practice stropping with a butter knife or dull knife to keep from cutting your strop & dulling the edge on the razor. Like Cis said, go to the Beginners Guide & move on from there. You'll be there reading until you get tired & it is time for bed!!!
Great to have you here. Any questions, just ask!
    Good luck my friend.
