Mike, I wish my beard grew as fast as it used to also.
Cocy53, welcome aboard. I see you have had a lot of good advice from many of our good members so ask away when you have any questions. The Library is at your fingertips so like Raol said, it is a good place to spend some time & a lot to learn there starting at the beginners Guide if you haven't yet & then move on from there. Do you have any ideas on a straight razor you might be interested in yet? Plenty of advice here so ask as many questions as you like.
We are glad you are here.
Good luck my friend.

Thanked: 2Thanks a lot! I have done a fair amount of research already and have ordered a DOVO 5/8 BEST QUALITY HALF HOLLOW from Invisible Edge. It is arriving tomorrow and I am really excited to get started. I am using mine to shape a beard (I want nice clean edges and it seems impossible with a cartridge razor).
My big concern at the moment is simply maintenance! I have bought a strop but really am concerned to find an easy way for a beginner like me to touch up a blade once the strop won't cut it anymore. With the number of stones and pasted strops out there, i am struggling to find the best option! If you have any recommendations on that I would be delighted to hear them!!!

Welcome to the forum. There are probably a million and one questions buzzing around your head at the moment. If you can't find the answers here or youtube, then ask away! We like to help.
What sort of strop are you getting? If it's less than a 3", you'll need to master the x-pattern to strop. Take a look at my youtube video for the x-pattern. Hope it helps. If you're getting a 3", then forget it!
Don't paste anything yet. Just use your strop 'clean' for now.
Good luck!Last edited by wayne394; 12-30-2015 at 08:06 PM. Reason: Forgot link...

Thanked: 2Thanks Damo - I was hoping I would bump into another Londoner sooner rather than later! Dont worry about the pucks although the offer is much appreciated and very kind!
I have gone for a basic starter kit first up from Invisible edge so that comes with their standard badger brush. I have also got a Lemon and Lime shaving cream from Taylor's of Old Bond Street. I heard good things about them and hoped that might be something quite fresh to start with in.
I am definitely hoping to upgrade my brush soon. I heard the Muhle silvertips are good for a long lasting synthetic.
This is definitely a process of discovery for me. Are there any places in London you recommend I check out for kit for starters?
