Thanked: 0Greetings for southeastern PA
I've always liked "old school" way of doing things. Single action revolvers, lever action rifles, film cameras, mechanical watches, all from a time when doing some things was an art rather than just a process. I don't know why it took me so long to get into SR shaving.
Anyhow, my sweet wife bought me a beautiful Damascus steel (nickle?) razor that I finally gave up on after two days of honing. I then went out and bought an ancient used piece at an antique store, which I eventually realized was warped after another two days of honing. I actually got that one sharp enough to (painfully) shave. I finally broke down and bought a ready to shave razor. Who knew this could be so much work? but I've never been one to give up easily.
Nice site, by the way.

Always good to see someone from my area join our fold. I'm from Philly.
Yes while there are challenges regarding straights, its nothing that cant be overcome by Practice, Practice and more Practice. There's plenty of knowledge here at SRP to steer you in the right direction the membership know tons. Dont forget to hit the Library for all your unanswered questions.

Hi and welcome. Honing sounds easy and the vids look easy enough to follow. The finesse and skills dont show well in the videos. It will take some practice but it does come together. Starting with a shave ready razor is best as you have a benchmark and can get your shaving and stropping skills down. Try to keep them separate in the beginning it will save lots of frustration. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
