I'm new here too, but I've been shaving with a SR off and on for years. Enjoy it and take your time, it will become second nature soon. Freddie

Very true Freddie. I forgot to mention that but I already wrote a lot. I usually say to be patient & take your time. Thanks Freddie!

I live in the Houston area. You're definitely in the right place. I want to make that meet so badly but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
If you can't make the meet, you can find someone possibly near you or the next best thing is to click on the Library above, then the Beginners Guide & go from there. Learn to use that strop & practice with a butterknife for now until you feel more confident. I haven't seen too many perforated strops plus that one is an heirloom so you don't want to damage it by cutting it or dulling a good blade. Also you can go to Youtube & watch video's. When you do, type in Lynn Abrams name, the owner of this forum & you will see his video's about many things on this subject. Great to have ya here. Any questions, just ask.
    Good luck my friend.
Thank You very much engine46. my bday is on the 9th. Thanks for all the great info. I have been combing through the forum learning all I can and will look for the videos. I've heard lots of people say to practice with a butter knife when stropping, that sounds like a good idea. If things work out I hope to get into honing as well but that's a ways off.

Thanks K37. Do you know a local place for supplies? Heading to Austin this weekend but I hate making that drive every time I need something. And where can I get a razor honed locally?

No, unfortunately I don't. I order all my supplies on the internet. As for razor honing, I will do it for free when you need it and show you how if you want. As long as you don't drop your razor or something, you should only need refreshes for a long time.

Thanks! I may take you up on that! I am getting a honed razor so it should be a while before it needs re honing but I would love to eventually learn how.

Welcome Brian, and good luck with your new endeavour. I was hoping you could post a picture of that strop with the perforations in it. Thanks.
