Hello from Tennessee
Good day to you all,
First, i would like to thank you for this site. I've been monitoring and using the contents here for several years now. I started out with a DE (above the tie. .. great shaver) and used that for two years and now have been using a Parker safety shavette for over a year and shave with it everyday . I think it's time for me to start looking for that first straight and have been listening to alot of you out there. I've been looking at classifieds and also at the whipped dog site...... i want a good shaver. ... not broke by any means but want to start right, as I've never stropped the first one yet. I've watched Lynns video many times. ... it's how i learned lol.
I got to stop now. .. i get long winded when I'm excited. It's good to finally be here. Any help is appreciated. .. feel free to contact me. Thanks again.

Hey, you can go a head and start practicing your stropping now. Either get you a decent inexpensive strop to start and practice with a butter knife, or make a blue jean strop, you,ll get a jump on the technique before you get your razor.
The classifieds is a good place to get a lower cost starter razor that's more than likely shave ready. Good luck. Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Hi and welcome. Since you are only transitioning from the shavette it should be fairly easy for you. All you need is a razor and strop and a lot of technique will carry over. From what I have read a lower blade angle is needed for the straight though. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Welcome to SRP! You have come to the right place for straight razor shaving info. The Whipped Dog "Poor Man's Strop Kit' would be an excellent choice for now while learning to strop along with practicing with a butter knife. After you become proficient stropping you can start looking for a better strop. Also, I'm just down the road off I-40 in Crossville and if you have some spare time you are welcome to stop by and I'll help you on stropping or anything else shaving related, just shoot me a PM and we can go from there.
