I have read some and watched some you tube videos. I figured with the SRD strop kit, it was more cost effective to go with the upgrade than to get the lower quality one and buy a better later. Now i just hope i don't nick it up. I guess some motivation to take it slow.

Hehehe, VERY slow. I'm very satisfied with the 3" Black Latigo strop I got from SRD when I started a year and a half ago. Being very meticulous when the situation calls for it, it took more than two seconds per stroke (4 per lap) when I stropped the first month or two. This was so I could visually ensure proper contact & technique.

Try practicing with a butter knife for at least a week before you take the razor to the strop. Muscle memory helps, just don't get too confident.

Good luck! And enjoy the journey!!!

John listen to Crawler. Practice stropping with a butter knife. Go slow and learn how to flip the razor without turning your wrist. You might want to start the learning process using a newspaper as a strop. It is recommended that you practice several times a day for a period of two or three weeks in order to gain proficiency. Learning how to strop is the foundation upon which your success will be based. Good luck as you journey into this fabulous hobby.
