Welcome John to the group. You have put together an excellent list and Don at Straight Razor Designs is great to deal with. I'd suggest you talk to him about a hanging strop and listen to his recommendations. Good luck on your journey. Ask questions and the guys will be happy to help you.

    John,

    Welcome to Straight Razor Place!

My first razor was an Aust from SRD. Good choice. In fact, all of those on your list look like solid choices.

Welcome aboard, from a fellow Hoosier!!!

Solid choices so far. Just remember to have as few variables as possible! For example: do not use a different shaving soap/cream every time you shave! Another thing to keep in mind regarding strops: you are likely to nick/cut your first one, so it is perfectly fine if you go with a "budget" model.

I'm a bit curious, what has been your shaving history up to this point?

Shaving history is normal everyday. I have tried the gillettes and electric razors. I usually grow a beard during the winter and haven't found anything good to trim with.

I see that you went with a more premium strop. Have you read-up on how to practice your stropping technique?
