    Default Hi

I am pretty old to get started with a SR but I want to add it to my ways to relax. I shave my head with a head blade and it is perfect, I bought a "beginners" SR with disposable blade and I just can't get the hang of it so I went to a real 6/8 full hollow and am looking forward to getting started. Any tips on how to hold the angle would be awesome. Thanks Paul

    Welcome to SRP!
The library here is fantastic. And, it will give you enough info to be able to define questions you wish to ask later.
Where to check for local help.

There are some recent changes to the forum and...I no longer know where to look for the guys that hone.
I do hope that you have planned to send the razor out to a pro to be honed.
Add your location to your avatar and one may offer the services.

    Again, Welcome!

    Hi,PaulB731,Welcome to SRP.
Typically, start with a spine width off the skin, and adjust from there. There's lots more information in the library on the subject. And watching Lynn's video's will help get you a better understanding also.

You should also post your location, someone may be close to you and could meet with you for one on one help.
Should you find yourself needing it.
Take a look around, ask lots of questions, and enjoy yourself, glad ta have ya.

Welcome to SRP there's a lot of great folks and info here

You're never to old to start SR shaving. As Geezer said the library will give you the info you need. There's a link at the top of the page

    Enjoy and have fun

Hello and welcome. A SR with disposable blade : you mean a shavette, I guess you don't have a frameback SR.
Use a real SR and you will soon leave the shavette in the drawer.

Welcome to the forum, Paul. You will be pleased that you moved to a real straight razor from the shavette. Keep the blade angle fairly shallow -- say one or 2 spine widths from your face -- and you should do fine. Like others have mentioned, watching videos or getting together with a more experienced member are great ways to flatten the learning curve. Have fun shaving!
