    That's a great blade for a beginner especially because of the rounded tip. Plus, you can trust that Gugi will have it honed properly and shave ready. And, he appears to offer a free honing if you cover shipping costs. My first razor was also a Dovo, FWIW.

    Straight Razor Designs would be a good source since they have quality products, but I'd recommend a gift certificate. I know that one Christmas when I bought my wife a sewing machine she got angry ........

    Welcome and what a great and thoughtful gift! Can't say enough good about srd and gift card might be your way to go. On the other hand, having you pick it would be nice also. A more personal touch coming from you. Good job

    I will add another vote for SRD. Fancy razors may be better left for after all the beginners mishaps are out of the road
