Needing help buying for husband
For Valentine's Day I want to buy my husband a straight razor to see how he likes it, looking for advice from the pro's here on a good quality brand to look for a beginners set/kit .... and since I'm a female, it wouldn't hurt to look aesthetically pleasing ~ lol. Thanks guys

Welcome to Straight Razor Place!
My first suggestion would be the Buy/Sell/Trade section here at Straight Razor Place. Vintage might be the way to go if you don't want to put too much money into something he may not get into. There have been more than one beginners set up for sale in the Buy/Sell/Trade posted in the past month. I think one is still available.
If I was buying new I would look at the kits from Straight Razor Designs. A 5/8 or 6/8 razor made by Ralf Aust would be a good first razor. Straight Razor Designs makes sure the razors they sell are sharp enough to actually shave. Many razors coming out of the factory still need some touch up sharpening to make them fully shave ready. That is something to be aware of when buying from discount websites and large retailers.

go to Straight Razor Designs and try out one of there starter sets,, look in your budget and it will come shave ready which is very important, a lot of people sell them but not many truly hone them ready to shave, this is a trusted source. asthetics they all look alike, with the exception of handles and etchings a razor is a razor. a Ralph Aust would be a sure bet.
if budget is a concern you can look in our Buy Sell Trade section, they will come shave ready too, from a straight user, Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Hello and welcome to SRP!
My vote as well is for a set with a Ralf Aust razor from Straight Razor Designs.
Make sure that after you give that beautiful gift, you get your husband involved as a member of this forum. Most everyone here is more than willing to help and make this an awesome experience for him.
Good Luck!

Ok, I will check out that website. I didn't see any kits in these classifieds, but I could be missing it. I've been reading on some of the threads here before I posted and did read about that "shave ready". I appreciate your help and info

Remind him that in "the good ol' days," all they had available were straight razors for shaving. That should alleviate some of his potential fear and trepidation. Have him watch Lynn's video here about starting out slowly and gradually shaving more and more of his face (chin and mustache areas tend to be trickier for beginners). Before you know it, he will likely enjoy shaving as much as the rest of us nuts here.

Welcome...What a wonderful wife!
The kit from Straight Razor Design would be good. I'd even add Lynn's DVD onto the kit. Also, If you need to I'm sure you could call them with any questions prior to ordering to make sure you're making a good choice.
p.s. I got the 5/8 Ralf Aust round point mentioned above...great razor.Keep it safe and Cheers,
Jer
