Default Ready to give this a go.

    Hi guys,

My name is Rob and I'm from Northern California. I've been using a DE razor for about 4 years now. I've been wanting to try straight razors for a while now. I've read just a couple articles about the subject, so I know less than nothing. I would appreciate any expert advice on a good quality razor, strop and honing stone.

    Thanks

You might look at Straight Razor designs/ imperial shave.
They have reasonably priced starter kits available where you can choose which razor you've want to go with it.
I would recommend either a Boker, or a Ralf Aust razor.

On the other hand...welcome to the forum, glad to have you , and enjoy your journey into straights.

    Welcome to SRP!
There's a lot of great folks and info here, check out the library.
I second that going with Straight Razor Designs is a great first move for a starter kit.
Lynn has some very good youtube vids to help you along too.

    Enjoy and have fun

Welcome. There are some things that are very important in my shave. The one thing that I think gets under emphasized is skin stretching and holding. when you watch shave videos everyone is doing it but it does not get pointed out enough. Aside from that keep you blade angle low and your lather wet. Start with the easy spots and work your way up to a full shave once you have holding your razor and are more comfortable. Also when they talk about the grip of your razor it is not a death grip, it is held firmly, but loosein the wrist. Happy shaves!

    Hi Rob,

    Welcome from SE Washington State.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? Your profile is empty. Unless you are under the Witness Protection Program it would be helpful to know more about you. Even having a city might be of some help as there may be local help nearby.
