Hello straight shavers! Better late than never.
Hi,
My name in Mirek and I live in Poland. I have started shaving with straight razor 2,5 years ago.
My first razor was 4/8” Swedish ASTA (C. V. HELJESTRAND, ESKILSTUNA). Although it is nice, small razor, I have found it hard to hone and strop – especially for the beginner.
Then I have bought a chopper – 8/8” Charlex. I was still beginner and it was little bit to big for me, but I have used it till today. Charlex was much easier to hone and strop. By the way, first honing was made not by be, but someone who knows how to do it properly.
Then I have spent $6 for Gold Dollar, just for learning how to hone razors. I have used Katto (Taidea) 400/1000, 3000/8000, MST Müller and cheap 12K stone from China.
Though I was using straight razor quite often, shaving was not a real pleasure for me. This has changed when I have bought 6/8” Puma. What a great shaver!
From the first shave with Puma I have decided to switch completely to straight from DE razor.
The next move was to get some tools. For a moment I was thinking about getting something brand new, like Thiers Issard, Koraat or Wacker, but after long research I have chosen Filarmonica 14 and Wade & Butcher (9/8” - 7/8”) – both for renovation. I will see if it was good choice.

Welcome to SRP!!!
Wow you have a very nice collection going on there, and it seems you have a good handle on things.
Restoring is a lot of fun and there's a section here called the workshop which has a ton of information. As well as the library.
Enjoy and have fun!!!!Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Welcome to SRP, Mirek! Glad you perservered using straight razors and now have a nice, varied collection of razors. If you find you like the shave from your Fili #14, be on the look out for a #13. It's closer to your Puma in size, and I'm sure you will appreciate its performance (especially if you like the full hollow grinds). I have a DT #13, and it's a great shaver and fairly easy to hone and keep sharp.
Several members here enjoy using Wapis so maybe keep an eye out for a good one of those. Cheers!
(My grandfather emigrated from Ukraine early last century and gave me the straight shaving bug early on...but I didn't start using them until 2012.)Last edited by Speedster; 04-27-2017 at 05:06 AM.
