Thanked: 1Greetings from Winston Salem, NC
Good evening.
I've wanted to find a nice straight razor and learn to use it and over the past weekend, I finally took the plunge. Razor in hand, now I just have to learn to use it (sans self inflicted face lift).
I'm a cigar aficionado, motorcycle rider, (horrible) golfer, ham radio operator, and competition shooter.
I look forward to getting to know folks here and learn all I can about my new habit/hobby/obsession.

Welcome to SRP. It sounds like you already have a number of habit/hobby/obsessions.

Thanked: 634The razor may not be shave ready. Post photos and we can tell you if it is worth getting it professionally honed.

Welcome to SRP!
I know that you are excited to take the plunge, but if the razor hasn't been professionally hand sharpened then you do not want to shave with it.
You probably also need a strop, and shave soap, and a brush. Canned shaving cream doesn't work to well with straights.
There is/was a pretty active shave group in the triangle area. Hopefully one of them can meet up with you and get you going. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 1The seller I bought from completely reconditions their stuff. She won't sell one that isn't shave ready and will hone and strop before allowing you to take possession if she thinks it's needed. I picked up soap and a all leather strop from her as well. Need a brush and a linen strip to fix to the back of my strop and I'm up.
FWIW, the triangle area is about an hour and a half from Winston. Triad area is what they call the Winston region.
