    Default New to Straight Shaving

    Hi All,

I'm new to straight shaving, wish I would have discovered straight shaving many years ago. Stared with a new DOVO 5/8 with black scales.

Welcome to SRP, Pierre! Like you, I also wish I had started several years sooner. But, hey, better late than not at all.

Hi and welcome aboard. You will want to up the strop count to 50 or so. Not stropping enough will let the edge degrade still. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

I was in the same boat. Didn't start until very late. Just a thought though. Generally with a new shave ready straight razor, it is best to shave with it first before stropping so that you will know what a shave ready razor feels like. This is in the event that a maybe poor stropping technique may dull the sharp razor. Not saying that you don't know how but sometimes a person new to this has not acquired a good technique.
