Hi and welcome aboard. Been more than a few people end up here after buying those kits. As said a better razor will likely make a world of difference. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

Hello, I'm relatively new at this too. My first razor was a Dovo "best quality" it was more than I wanted to pay for a starter but I saw so many mixed reviews on the gold dollars, I just didn't think it would be a fair place to start. I eventually did get a gold dollar that was "shave ready" and as a couple of other folks have commented, I don't think I would have continued with straights if that's where I started. No amount of stropping could help me or this razor. I ended up having to really hone the heck out of it. It was horrible - especially around the stabilizer. really really bad....like a butter knife. Another suggestion could be one of those cheap shavette razors so that you can get the feel of a sharp well honed blade. I'm 100% sold on straights and as another person commented, you can expect the best shave ever after one or two passes. My current dilemma is what to do while I travel. I could just pack my old Double edge razors but I enjoy the straights so much and prefer the closeness that I'm not even sure I want to use the DEs - plus I end up with nasty cuts when I'm out of practice with a DE. Anyway...that's my two cents welcome follow newbie!
