Default Hello from Nova Scotia, Canada

Greetings everyone! My name is Gary and I've just entered the rabbit hole! I've been using DE razors for a few months now and decided to throw myself into using straight razors. After doing a bit of research I settled on purchasing a Dovo Inox 5/8 hollow ground stainless with Olivewood handle and a 3" English bridle hanging strop with a leather handle by Ashcroft at Classic Edge.

Really excited to get started, lots more research to do on technique though.

    Gary

Welcome to the forum, you'll find a lot of the fun is in the learning curve, so take your time and enjoy each step.

Classic Edge is a great store, Phil and Jane superb people and will treat you well, I purchased my starter kit from them.

Concentrate on watching a few video's, stay with just doing WTG passess using both hands on your jawline below the ear, and get 20 shaves under your belt before moving to XTG. That's what I did, and it's been and still is, ton's of fun.

Here's the video that pushed me over the edge...couldn't get it out of my mind, came home one night, and ordered the kit from Classic Edge myself.

    Aloha Gary!

Welcome to SRP. This is an amazing forum. Some of the guys here have forgotten more than I know, and I've been wet shaving for decades.

Nice first razor. Congrats. Here is a great vidoe by Lynn Abrams regarding Straight Razor shaving, and technique if you have not seen it already. I love his style. Especially for a newbie. One easy pass and maybe that's it for the first time! Good advice.

Lots of great vids on Youtube and lots of great info in the Library here.

    So dive in and Enjoy!

Welcome Gary. Sounds like you are starting with good equipment. Check the library and ask questions. Take it slow and be patient. The rewards will come.
Visited Nova Scotia over 40 years ago. If memory is correct folks from your neck of the woods were called Blue Nose. Beautiful country. Lovely friendly people. Fantastic seafood.

Thanks for the advice - I'll stick to WTG at first. Fortunately, I'm the type of person that likes to get into the weeds, so watching the videos etc is no problem.

Welcome to the rabbit hole. I too started with a Dovo kit from Classic Edge. Once I started to get the hang of it I was hooked. If you like to travel there is a meet coming up in Toronto.
