New member in Arkansas. Cy
After posting a request to buy a leather/linen strop, several members suggested I might introduce myself. I'm living in Arkansas and have been there for almost 20 years now. My work includes managing mental health clinics throughout Arkansas as part of Baptist Health Sysyems. I am also an RN and continue to provide mental health services as needed. I've been DE and SE shaving for over a year now and wanted to take on a new challenge so I picked up 2 Hart SRs in a trade. I'm about 5 shaves in now and am getting comfortable, irritation-free shaves that leave a bit to be desired in closeness, but I'm fine with that for now. I also picked up 3 inexpensive SRs from a great member here, boushie, who was kind enough to make them shave - ready and am using those razors to become accustomed to SR shaving. I know I can't continue to shave without using a strop so, in terms of equipment, that is where I am. Thank you for the warm welcome! Cy

Hello Cy and welcome to SRP.
Keep your eye on the Buy/Sell/Trade thread for a strop.
Another good place is Straight Razor Designs. It's co-owned by our founder Lynn.
Have fun and enjoy your time here on the forum.

Thanked: 634Welcome Cy. Glad to hear it is going well. Like I told you in P.M.'s and emails take your time and read up in the library. You will get there. Remember you never stop learning. I have been using a straight 20 to 30 years and still learn new techniques.

Aloha!
Welcome to SRP. This is an amazing forum with awesome members that have incredible knowledge. I've been straight shaving for decades and still learn new things from this forum. I lurked here for a very long time before joining. Joined reluctantly as I'm not usually big on Forum participation, but it's been a great experience for me. Hope it is for you as well.
You need a quality strop. It's not an option, it's a necessary tool for straight razor shaving. Stropping is an art. Many a finely honed razor edge has been dulled by poor stropping technique, so watch the videos and read the posts and library info to make sure you are doing it right and not rolling your edge. It sounds like you got your blade professionally honed and shaved with it without stropping. This is a good thing in the beginning, so you know how a sharp blade feels against your skin and how it cuts your beard. This way you will have a benchmark on what a properly sharpened blade edge is supposed to feel like.
Enjoy the journey!

Hello Cyjazz welcome. I hope you are good at keeping your addictive side in check, seeing all the sweet razors, strops and hones these fellas have can make you spend money. But kidding aside ask anything and we will help the best we can.
