Welcome to the SRP. Glad to have ya. I'm also a Tennessean. Located between Memphis and Nashville. There's a lot of good folks here at the place and a world of knowledge and the best thing is they don't mind sharing that knowledge. If you have a question just ask. They'll be glad to help.

Hello and welcome on the forum.
You told us that your straight came shave ready. That's a good thing but I wonder: are you sure? I mean that you can buy a new Dovo that comes out the factory with the stamp "shave ready" printed on the cardbox and the notice. That is far from the reality. If it comes from an ad of a member of this forum, who hones since years and tests the blades on his own face, he plays with his fame, so it's more secure. Then you have retailers offering the option of honing when you purchase a new straight. An absolute necessity if you are not able to do it yourself.
Enjoy this new way of life

Thanked: 0I’m pretty sure it was user error. Griffiths honed the razor before shipping. Shave #2was a little better, I only shaved the cheeks and left the rest to my safety razor.

Thanked: 0I know what you mean. Shave #3 this morning—right and left cheeks only, did the rest with a cartridge. The nicks and cuts from my first attempt have given me some patience.
