Thanked: 0Hello from Tennessee
New member first post.
My first straight came in the mail about a little while ago, from Griffith’s, shave ready. I had watched a couple of videos and thought I was good to go so I had my first shave. I nicked my self a few times and broke out the styptic pencil, that razor is sharp LOL. My face is a little raw, but I’m hard-headed. I’ll try again tomorrow evening.

Hello and welcome to SRP.
Learning to shave with a straight razor takes a lot of practice and patience. Once mastered it will reward you with a lifetime of pleasure. At first you should go slowly and always stay in your comfort zone. They say that at around 100 shaves you might start to get somewhat comfortable shaving and start to get good results. Watch a ton of videos, do your homework and soon you'll be shaving like an old pro.
Enjoy your time on the forum and have fun.

Thanked: 634Welcome.
Take it slow.
First shave both cheeks a few times.
Then add chin and upper lip.
Now after a few shaves of cheeks and chin add in neck.

Welcome to the SRP. Preparation is paramount, prepare that beard for the shave. Take your time, I used toshave before bed so there was no rush to finish to get to work. Ask many questions, there are no dumb questions. Enjoy the entire process.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Thanked: 0I think I tried to shave too much too soon. My next shave will be cheeks only.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome to SRP!
Great folks here willing to help in any way we can. Just take it slow and easy. Be sure to read the stuff in the library about beginning shavers. Its very helpful. Also be sure to watch Lynn's vid on shaving. It shows how to stretch the skin. And that is an important thing to not forget. Shave the lather and no pressure. Keep at it even if you dont get great shaves as it takes time. Enjoy the learning experience! It's just Sharpening, right?
