Welcome to SRP. Two things...
Shave the lather, not the face
And
It take 100+ shave before you really start to understand what your doing. After a years time you will be comfortable with putting the sharpest thing in the world to your throat.
Enjoy the trip. It's just Sharpening, right?

Welcome to the forum. I am also fairly new. I started with a straight about two years ago and gave up pretty quickly. I recently started again and told myself I was going to learn it.
I am now past six weeks in and am doing better every week. The Best advice I can give is go slow and don’t shave anything you are uncomfortable doing. Definitely don’t worry about getting smooth shave. Just worry about getting the right angle no pressure. Touch up with your normal way of shaving each day. After six weeks I still need the touch up on my chin and a little on my neck. Every day I start shaving the main goal is to get a comfortable shave with no irritation at all. This is the mistake I made two years ago.
Two years ago I made myself get a BB shave every day even if it meant bad razor burn. Definitely don’t go that route.Have a great shave.
