Thanked: 0Hello
Hey everyone, long time lurker here that finally decided to join the conversations. I have been wet shaving off and on for a few years with a brief and unsuccessful attempt to learn straight razor shaving. I just got back to using a safety razor about a month ago and the straight razor bug has hit me again. I just received a Dovo and strop set from SRD yesterday. I have to shave every day for work, so I will continue to use my safety razor for work days. However, I plan on trying my hand with the straight razor once a week starting next Sunday. Fingers crossed that I have better luck than I did back in 2013!

Welcome, That sounds like a good plan! If you have kids or animals, the shave den should be off limits!
Where are you located? There should be someone nearby to be able to help you refine your trials.
Be well and prosper!

Thanked: 0Thanks everyone for all of the welcomes! I am located in Northern, KY. I don’t have any kids, but I do have a dog. Once the straight razor comes out though I will make sure that my dog isn’t able to get in. I definitely don’t want any distractions once I have the straight razor out.

Thanked: 25Welcome to the site, I have learned quickly, the more you use a straight razor, the better the result. It takes over 100 shaves or more to get it down where you start to feel comfortable. Best of luck.

Thanked: 315Welcome to the forum from Georgia! A lot of knowledgeable gentleman here and most or all of any useful information you may get from me I plagiarized from them.
I would make a couple suggestions about straight shaving.
As it has been said here, "shave the lather, not your face." So, use less pressure!
Go for a comfortable shave. If you try too hard to get a super baby smooth shaved you can leave your face feeling like ground beef! I'm guilty of doing this be on multiple occasions.
Got your razor from SRD so you know it really is "shave ready!"
Go slow on that new strop! You don't get points for stropping really quickly or cutting your nice new strop.
Be cautious of forum members trying to help you spend your money on extra toys. You'll end up with a strop made of unicorn leather and a seven day custom razor set made of adamantium.

Thanked: 4826Welcome to the forum. There are many aspects to wet shaving and you can find a lot of information about all of them here, but as a former lurker you knew that. Glad you are out of the shadows.
