    Default New guy from America.

    Hey guys,

I love discussion forums and I'm new to the straight razor. How is everyone?

I use a Dovo hollow ground, just the basic plastic handle, round edge type. I bought it from a website (superiorshave.com)? in 2009 but only used it twice. I bought a strop but was too fearful to try stopping it, figuring I'd do it wrong. I did make use of the shave soap and Tweezerman beaver brush but only for a Mach 3 razor.

One month ago I decided I'd give it another go. I watched a video by the guy from and BOOM it was easy! I stropped 20 times on my cotton and 40 times on my leather and I couldn't believe how easy it was.

I've gotten much better, shaving 2 or 3 times a week. Just last night I shaved a bit with my weak hand on my opposite neck side since that seems to be the only way to go against the grain there.

Dont be afraid of doing stuff wrong. You absolutely will!. It is all part of the learning process. Nicked strops, bleeding faces, rolled edges are are all something that happens. Welcome aboard and have fun.

Nice job coming back to it a decade later. You can learn a lot here through the library, reading old threads, or simply asking questions. Feel free to ask anything. We really are here to help.

Welcome to the forum. Stropping is pretty easy if you go slow. Start whipping that blade back and forth and the strop finds out just how sharp the blade is!

I'm also from Murica! The Georgia portion.

Welcome. What part of the U.S.? Did the razor come shave ready? If not you are starting with one strike against you. If it needs honeing there may be someone near you that hones razors. If not PM me and I can let you know my cost.
