Thanked: 3Hello from NorCal
Hi All-
New to SR shaving by about a month. Picked up a couple of shave ready vintage razors and some stirling soap products and brush and off I went, feeling the burn! Lol!
Really enjoying challenge and art needed for the SR! Taking my time and enjoying the shave! Getting the best shaves I have ever had just in the first month! ...there is a little blood :
Look forward to expanding my skills and getting into restoration and honing upkeep!
Looking to pick up some starter gear that I can practice with, GD's and older SR's and some stones, metal polish and scales...
Wishing everybody a fantastic Sunday! BBS shaves for all!
John

Thanked: 634Hello John and welcome. No matter how long you shave with a straight you will always draw some blood now and then. Get the shave down pat first. As for honing you may only need a 12k stone to refresh the edge. If you only have one or two razors it is more economical to send them out to be honed. You did not mention a Strop. You will definitely need one to maintain the edge.
Good luck and enjoy.

Thanked: 4827Welcome to the forum. You can PM any of the mentors for advice, and if it is not there area of knowledge, they will either direct you to threads about your question or people who definitely know. If you are having fun and enjoying the shaves you are doing it correctly.

Welcome to SRP. Sounds like to got a good start. Keep at it, ready the info in our library as its full of good things for a new guy to know about shaving. Take it easy and slow. You may bleed now and then and get the razor burn but it will be less and less as time goes on. Remember that it will take around 100 shaves before you start to really get it. So dont give up. In a few months you will be getting some great shaves without too much effort.
It's just Sharpening, right?
