    Howdy Jameson! Welcome!
Glad to know there's another member in Chucktown.
    Just moved here last winter.
The guy you met was telling it true, you found the right place.
Let me know if I can help you with anything, and I'll see what I can do. My specialty is not honing that's for sure.
Still getting my shop and supplies and time in order, but when I do I'd like to help if you want.
Just start cramming info in, there's a crazy amount of learning available here!
    Good luck.

    Chucktown!
Thank you and welcome to Chucktown MikeT.
We have a little of everything down here in the low county.
I hope you enjoyed your first summer. This winter I hope to have the time for some shaving projects, until then I'll be learning and shaving.

Maybe i can get some buddies to join up and start shaving with straight razors or DE. They think I'm a little crazy for doing it though!

    Welcome to SRP.
Dont mind your friends that think your crazy. It might be true, and if it is then we are all in the same boat. Lots of good info given so far. Be sure to read the info in our library about learning to shave with a straight. Learn to shave with a real, hand honed razor. This is key to making the learning so much better.

Post up a pic or 2 of what you have and we can get you started in the cleaning and polishing or at least point you in the right direction you need. Join in on the conversations. We dont only chat about razors. Mostly razors, but lots of other stuff too.

Welcome aboard, Jameson. Glad your with us.
Sounds like your already one of the group..crazy about putting sharp things to our throats.

When your ready, head over to the workshop, check out "What are you working on" thread. Its a long thread, but many details, and how too's on razor repairs.

Educate yourself well, and ask those questions of what's not clear. You'll receive a boat load of answers, and help from others.

This ^^ is the best. In person is the best way to learn honing, plus it will add to the relationship with your FIL. Even if your honing evolves to be very different from what he shows you, you will still gain immensely from the passed down knowledge.

Hi and welcome aboard. Might pay for you to start with a razor you don't care about. Learning to restore and hone are areas its easy to stuff a good razor let alone those few mistakes while learning to shave.

    Welcome.

There is so much knowledge and skill here and the SRP members are incredibly generous sharing it. Please post some pics of your straight razors so we can see what they look like and offer advice about where to start getting them back in shave ready condition. You might be surprised how quickly a razor that looks black and wasted can often be brought back to life. Even if it needs some first aid, there are folks here to guide you through the process or even restore it for you.

Have fun and watch out for the rabbit holes.
