Thanked: 6Hello from South Carolina!
Hello!
I live in Charleston SC. Recently got into shaving with a DE but am wanting to move to a straight razor.
Don't really know much of anything about these things at all. Shaving in general had become very boring and so the DE, and that had been great but I've been drawn to straight razors since I used to watch my father shave with one in the 70s and 80s before he passed. My closest memories.
A guy I met downtown a couple weeks ago told me about SRP, he said this is the best place!
I'm here to learn how to shave and restoring some of the razors I have, and maybe make some cool scales.
Don't know how far I'll go, but I have a feeling I'm gonna like all of it.
My dads name was James and so my friends call me Jameson.
Cheers Gents!

Hey, Jameson. Love that stuff!
Welcome. Go to all the subforums. Read, ask questions and before you do, search the box at the top-right.
Often your answers will be found there in older threads, but it helps to educate, IMO.
I hope you made it through the weather!

Hello Jameson, welcome to SRP. You'll find a wealth of information in the library and from very knowledgeable members who are happy to help you get started. It sounds like you might have some of your father's straights. You might want to post photos of them so that we can see what you have. I'd consider having one of them professionally honed, pick up an inexpensive strop, watch a few instructional videos, and jump right in.

Thanked: 4826Welcome. A lot of us showed up not knowing much and have progressed. Collectively we know a lot. I’m happy to be able to help you on your journey. Feel free to PM any of the mentors with questions or ask them on the open forum.

Welcome from Kansas!
If any of those razors are your dads, do not practice honing on them! Seriously, it'll break your heart if you blow it.David

Thanked: 6Thank you guys! I'm surprised how many of you came to greet, I appreciate it. That chap I talked to wasn't kidding when he said the are a whole lot of good guys on here.
Yes I plan on going slow and steady, no big hurry.
Good suggestions and advice already, I was planning on trying to hone one up but something stopped me.
I'll be sending them to my wife's dad who has been using a straight razor for just about 60yrs. He says this is the last year and he will give me a crash course when we visit Florida for two weeks in a couple months. He learned from his dad, and so all the way back to his ancestors who came over long before the founding of the States.
I think I have about a dozen, but most are in a sad state.
So that means I have some good work ahead of me.
Thanks again guys, the advice and open offers of help are more than i expected.
