It's been a while since my last post here so I will just resurrect this thread.
I've been using straights on and off for the last year, until about 5 weeks ago when something clicked and I started have very comfortable shaves. I didn't do anything different. It just got better literally over night. The culprit was the John Heiffor near wedge razor that I've honed myself from bevel set to Nani 12k using just the Belomo 10x loupe. I can't get more than four shaves out of an edge. I was hoping for more. Maybe at some point in the future.
I did buy a shave ready razor from the forum here and I am curious how it compares to my edges. It will be a while before it gets here though.
I seem to get better results using the roo strop over the horween horse hide one, but after the next general edge touch up I will switch strops. I've been stropping half my razors on roo and the other half on horween.
I have a belomo 20x loupe on the way wich should help with bevel setting and a traditional hand made kamisori.
Next projects are:
-repairing the Chabaz scales using a liner and epoxy with charcoal
-making a strop using a piece of flax firehose. I need to find a 2.5 inchi leather replacement piece. Any recommendations?
