Welcome back, and congrats on achieving my career goal: retirement!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    Welcome back.
Congratulations on your retirement. Six years for me.
It really is worth working your whole life to get there.

Hey, thanks so much for all the welcomes, much appreciated. I sat down and applied a little elbow grease (and a lot of polish) to my straights last night, so they're pretty again. Followed that with some CrOx .30 on a board strop. Did some gentle work smoothing up those edges, and a swipe or two on the leather strop before putting them back in their holders. When I was done, the edges showed a beautiful thin mirror finish. Today I'm going through the old soap to see what's still usable and shopping for some new. I'm amazed at how many of the brands I knew seem to have disappeared, replaced by goat milk and super hooty fragrances. I just need some manly stuff, you know, leather, woodsy, and orange creamsicle. I'm sure Williams is still the old must have standby for days when you need that quick no nonsense it just works soap. So, what else is good these days?

I like Barrister and Mann and Declaration Grooming, those are the two makers I find myself reaching for most days. There's so many out there, and they all work in a similar fashion. I'm not going to be that obtuse and say just get MdC but its an option, lol. Baum Be. is good, Fine, DR Harris soaps, Wholly Kaw. My advice is to hit up Maggards, read some reviews, and pick a few. They also offer samples in a limited supply. I could also just send you samples of everything I currently have in my modest den. Enough for a few shaves of each just to see if you like the scent and performance. Hope this helps, happy shaves my dude.

Yet another super fan of Williams Mug soap (first related post in what seems to have been a while):

Use that Williams to break in a new $15 boar brush and get yourself some suds after perusing Obie's "First Tier Soaps and Creams" list.

A bit of lengthy thread that one. See you back here in a few days...
