Thanked: 0Hello from Canada
Hi razor makers! I am a hobbyist knife maker from Canada who wishes to learn the why's and how's of straight razors. I've been active on Don Dogg's forum for a while but nobody there could really help me with razors so I wandered a bit and found this nice place. I have a bit of knowledge on heat treatments and various other things but I know next to nothing on razors so I feel I'm at the right place.
Have a nice evening gentlemen!

Welcome! You came to the right place, we have a few guys around here who make them. If you don’t have any straights, I would pick up a couple. I had the chance to make one earlier this year under the tutelage of a few men on the forum. I had a pretty good understanding of what I wanted for ergonomics and an ok grasp on blade geometry. There are a few hard and fast rules but beyond that your imagination will be your limit. Check out the Forge part of the forum, some good info in there.
Tell us a little more about your razors and knives and include some pics, we love pics.

Thanked: 3228Yes, welcome to the forum.
I do not make razors but will second the advice to purchase some straight razors, learn to well shave with and hone them to shave ready before making any. That will give you a better understanding of why they are built the way they are.
Enjoy your time on the forum and look forward to seeing the straight razors that you make.
