    Default Hello from Canada

    Hello,

I have inherited 9 straight razors from my Dad. I have been researching them and stumbled across your group. I love history and have become fascinated with them! Some are easy to find but others I can't find anything about and was hoping you folks could help me.

Welcome to the forum Cheryl. If you could post photos of the razors you need info on and close ups of the markings on the tangs someone should be able to help you out. One thing we do not do is give valuations as it is against the forum rules.

There are many historians that hang out here and a lot of general shaving geeks. Post up some pictures of overall pictures and pictures of the tang stamps and you will get some links and history, plus everyone like razor pictures.
Welcome to the forum. You never know, you may become a straight razor and wet shaving geek too.

Thank you Bob! I posted one today and received a fantastic link that I had a quick look at on my phone. Now that I'm on my laptop, I'm going to a better look. I'll post more tomorrow.

Welcome to SRP. Guessing you may be female with that name and to let ya know we have a couple. Its not 100% men. We dont hear from them much. You too can find a good use for this type of shaving and we would be happy to help get you started in the right direction. Shaving with an item that may have been passed down is something only a few get the chance to do.

Let us know if you need anything else. We are happy to help.

Thank you! Yes, I am female. For the most part I have joined because I am still grieving my Dad. He was an amazing guy and a going concern. As I sorted through his things a month or so ago, I got an even better insight into my Dad. Many things, like these razors that I wish I could talk to him about. I am really curious about them and loving the complements I am getting on them. Just another confirmation that my Dad was a great guy and knew good stuff when he saw it! A true Scot!!

As far as using any of them, I'll never say never...but they are rather intimidating!

My condolences on your loss. Being kind of an old guy forum I think many if not most of us can relate. I know I can. I miss my dad a lot. Also I have a daughter of my own so I know what that father daughter relationship is like. It's a very special one and the story of you losing your dad makes me ache a little because of it His razors and other things I have from him are a reminder every time I use them.
As far as using the razors you certainly could. What a lot of people do when they're starting out is use the straight razor on the big wide patches of flat skin and use something else on the more tricky parts until they get more of the feel of handling and working with it. So you could always do that. That way it gives you that sense of connection to him. There's all kinds of things involved in using and maintaining the razors. Rabbit holes that you can fall down as we lovingly refer to them. I can assure you that you will find most anything you want to know in the annals of the library and the forum posts but even what you can't find already posted you can get answers to through questions from the members here. Feel free to ask and ye shall receive. I for one am always willing to answer questions. And if I don't know the answers I will help point you in the right direction.
