Thanked: 0New guy from Michigan
hello from Michigan. Just went back to safety razor shaving. Im 74 and have been using the cartridge razors for a long time. Now I'm trying the straight razor for the first time ever. I guess I like a challenge. Well It's probably not going to be a great success for a while, maybe never. it's a work in progress. Wish me luck. Hope every one has a great Memorial Day looking forward to the comments info everyone has.

Welcome grayray. No, I'm not accepting, "maybe never." With a little patience (or maybe more case by case) the right equipment and some guidance you will be surprised at how great it can be. There are lots of great guys here and an enormous knowledge base with archives of information that will help you find your way to success. It does take some time to learn so go slowly and don't get discouraged. The beginners section has a lot of good information to help you get started as does the shave library. Be sure to check both those out. If there are still questions you need answerd, which there inevitably are, we are here to answer questions. We have all been where you are and others helped us. Now we are here to help you. Perhaps one day you will do the same.
In the meantime enjoy your stay. Look around and join in. We like to talk about all sorts of things besides just razors and shaving. Also post some pictures of your gear. We love pictures, plus it may help us to help guide you.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Thanked: 44Welcome to the forum.
What are you using to start shaving with a straight? Did you hone it yourself?
Where did you get the razor? Shave ready?

Thanked: 0The razor is a Boker, German made, from shave nation. I was told that i should run it over a 12k stone and then strop it to get a better start with the new razor.
