Gentlemen, Greetings From Oklahoma
Gentlemen, I wanted to say hello and many thanks for what I can already say is by far the friendliest, most respectful, and informative online forum I have had the pleasure of reading.
I am a grad student in my final semester of school and have been shaving off and on with a Dovo Shavette that was a Christmas gift from my best friend about 3 years ago. Spending a ridiculous amount for disposable blades after paying for tuition and textbooks was the final straw. I have used my Shavette daily for approximately the last 6 months and I am ready to purchase my first straight and necessary equipment to have a proper beginning for a journey that I can already tell will be a life long hobby and passion.
Any advice, comments, help, suggestions, and even a sponsor would be greatly appreciated. I have scoured the forums and wiki and am now close to buying my first set of gear. I can't hardly wait! Thanks in advance.
Respectfully,
Jeremy

Welcome to SRP!
It sounds like you have done your homework, which is great! Any idea of what razor and strop you want to get?
If you havent already, check out Straight Razor Designs and RupRazor, as they both offer excellent starter kits for very good prices. Plus the razors do come shave ready..!
Welcome and good luck!

Well I advise that you keep reading, using the Search and Wiki and when that raises questions that haven't been answered there you can post it here or drop by the chat. Enjoy!

Thanked: 125Welcome to SRP, shaving heaven!
You are not the only convert from cartridges! So many people find out about straight razors and safety razors and being disgusted by the awful shaves provided by Gillette's cartridges...
Check out the classifieds, lots of good razors and equipement there.

Gentlemen,
Thank-you so much for the warm welcome. I just finished up a great shave with the Shavette and can hardly wait until I can get the razor and equipment finally figured out (i.e., what I want to purchase) and have my first shave with a bona fide straight razor. The information I have gleaned from the forum has vastly improved my shaves with the Shavette and I can only imagine how great they are going to be with the real straight. It's funny, I have even found my humble VDH brush and soap set to be giving me a better lather with the lather tips I have learned.
Thanks in advance for all of your input. I'm thinking of buying a wet shave set from SRD. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I suggest you show up in Stroud and fondle as many razors as possible. You know about this one with plenty of notice. No excuses will be accepted.

Thanked: 259hi and welcome. when i started out i purchased a dovo perlex from a vendor.
this is a really nice blade. make sure that the razor you choose is shave ready. SRD and others like VINTAGEBLADESLLC and several sellers on the classifieds here have shave ready straights available.

Hi Jeremy,
Welcome to SRP. There are a lot of choices and relatively few of them will be a "wrong" one (assuming you've read the about the Brands of Razors to Avoid of course).
Enjoy your journey!
