Thanked: 0New and Sending Greetings to All
Hi Ya'll, I go by the board name of Waya. Pronounced why_yah. It's a Cherokee word for WOLF, as I am half Cherokee and the rest French. I live in Houston, Texas, am 61 yrs. of age, and have been shaving with Straight Razors, off and on for several years since I inherited an old Simmons Hardware ' Keen Kutter ' Straight Razor from my Dad, who naver used it, as he inherited it from his Dad who did use it.
I cleaned and polished, sharpened, honed and stropped the old Simmons, replaced the broken scales with Ivory Micarta scales that I shaped, formed, cut and finished myself, and at some point down the road will do alittle scrimshaw on just to doll it up alittle.
I've been comming to this website for a few years, and just reading, so ya'll will have to excuse me for being a dadgummed LURKER,,,,LOL !
Since I just purchased a ventage Straight Razor off Ebay ( yes, I said EBAY, ) and haven't been able to find any info on it at all on the internet, I figured it was now time to register here and start asking questions to see if possably someone here might have some info, even if it's just alittle !
Anyhow,,, I'm here, and I hope to learn more then I know now about Straight Razors, etc, etc, etc. And BTW, when in my rookydom of learning to shave with one, many moons ago, I did wack myself a few times, just like all rookies do, but have long ago overcome that little tactick and am wiser now,,,, it's called BEING CAREFULL !!!

Welcome to SRP Waya!
It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you are doing..! Any chance of some pics of the razor you restored?
If you're looking for makes of razor, check the razor database on the SRP wiki:
Category:Straight Razor Database - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Some pics of this razor would also be useful to aid identification. Focus on any markings or makers names, and other members will chime in with the info..!
One of our members here, Manah, is very good with identifying razors and giving their history so it may be worth PMing him as well.
Good luck!

Stubear, thanks. Wish I had a way to take some picks of the thing and post them here, but I don't. My old camera is a Minolta UnderWater camera, alittle out dated,,,, LOL,,, kinda like me. Hopefully in the very near future I'll update myself and the camera and be able to post what I've got, and what I do to them, but for now,,,, excuse me for saying I'm just S.O.L. !!
I did go to the I.D. section, but couldn't find any listings on the one I'm inquiring about, innitially, but will check with Manah as you suggest. Thanks guy.

Welcome to SRP Waya. What is the name stamped on your ebay razor ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Oh Lordie me, I'de sure like to think so,,,, but I'm afraid you folks have more knowlege on these things then I do. But I'll do my best to try and add whatever input I can if it helps any.
Stamp on tang is; Left side- HENRY BUSS & SON and beneath that is NEW YORK
Right side stamped is; FULLY WARRANTED and below that is GERMANY
It's old but has been well taken care of and isn't worn down from honing and stropping. And boy does it shave GREAT !!!
