Thanked: 1Hello from Canada
Hi,
Been DE shaving for a year or so and love it. Always liked the look of straights, but hestitant to make the jump. Changed last week when I saw a few gorgeous looking razors at a local shop and couldn't help but buy them. Love this site as it's full of great info and look forward to getting my razors honed and shave ready!
Cheers.

Thanked: 4Welcome aboard,
I, too, started with DE for about a year, then moved on up. Remember to persevere if the going gets a little rough. It's now been about six months with the straights and the shaves are generally fine.
Hope your wallet doesn't take too much of a hit,
Mike

burnaby,
And a str8 razor salute to you too!
Its interesting that so many str8 razor users began by starting out with a DE. I did too last fall, then made the switch to str8s last December. I find myself using my str8 razor more and more--as I have become more comfortable using it.
Check the SRP wiki...It will provide you with lots of information to help ease your entry into the world of str8 razor shaving. The SRP forums are quite useful too. And if you ever have questions aboout razors, pre and post-shave, stropping, honing, etc. that you cannot readily find the answer to, you can always post a thread in one of the appropriate forums. An SRP member will usually respond with an answer based on their wealth of experience.
Again, welcome aboard and happy shaving.
BTW...What brand(s) of str8 razors did you purchase? If you can take a few pics, it would be nice to see them in the SRP "Show and Tell" forum, created specifically to display new razor acquisitions."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 24Welcome,
I seem to be to be in a similar situation as you. I am also from Canada, started with a DE and now am just about to move onto a ST8.
Good luck to you and your new endeavor.

Welcome to SRP!
We're glad to have you with us!
As others have said, give the Wiki a read as its full of useful information. It may be worth sending out one of your razors to be professionally honed to give you a benchmark to aim for when honing the others. Otherwise it may feel a bit like flailing in the dark..!
Good luck!

Hello From Canada
Hello, Burnaby:
Welcome to SRP.
Many here began by using the DE. Many still use the DE for backup, especially when short on time. I do.
Your move into the straight razor world is wise. The best way to start, however, is to dig into the basic information on straight shaving available at SRP.
We are delighted you have joined us.
Regards,
Obie
