Thanked: 1Howdy Ya'll
Howdy, I just found this place and so far I am very impressed. I will share a little bit of my background with ya'll. I am from the hills of North Georgia. I am a farrier by trade and farmer to add to my income. My hobbies include horses, blacksmithing, anything old and playing the fiddle. My grandfather taught me to shave with a straight razor and as far as I can remember I have only shaved with anything other than a straight 4 or 5 times. I have always said that I could sharpen anything (I put a razor edge on a shovel once to prove a point) so I hope I can help anyone who needs guidance and I hope I can learn a great deal from the members here. Good day

Welcome to SRP! Kick around and browse our posts. Feel free to ask questions. You might find that the definition of razor sharp may vary from one person to another so try and get a feel for how the members here hone their razors and the hones they use. You will find that sharp is an obsession to some of us.
What hones are you using to sharpen your razors?
Hope you enjoy your visits here as much as I do.“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Thanked: 1Thank ya'll for the welcome. I have many hones (I am one of those people obsessed with sharpening) but my main stones are a rough stone of un known grit (approx. 2000) , a medium stone of about 4000 grit, and a fine water stone of 8000 grit. I also have a civil war era stone used to sharpen surgeon's scalpels that is much finer than my 8000 stone. I would guess it to be 12-15,000 grit.

Thanked: 1371Welcome to SRP!
It sure sounds like you have an interesting background and will have a lot to contribute.
It's good to have you here.
Oh, and I'd love to see some pictures of that Cival War era stone.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Welcome to SRP. Glad to have another gentleman who is obsessed with sharpening and with hones. You'll fit in here like a glove.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
