    Default Hello from Edinburgh

    Hello Gentlemen,

I made the step to "traditional" wet shaving about 6 months ago. Until very recently I've just been using vintage Gillette DE razors with very satisfactory results.

I recently overcame my fear of straight razors and have picked up a couple of nice old razors; a French 4/8 Round and an Offenbach 6/8 Point. The French has been made "shave ready" by Steve at The Invisible Edge. So far, I've had 3 "okay" shaves with minimal blood loss...with a lot of help from my reading here and in the wiki (thanks).

I've got a second hand strop that started life as one of Tony Miller's 2.5" Latigo strops. It's got a couple of new nicks but I have been practising with a blunt blade between shaves.

I've been doing a lot of reading and asking questions at B&B and have visited SRP a lot following advice from some of the guys over there. I thought I'd better get round to registering here as I'm now a member of the straight community!

I'm looking forward to contributing as my journey progresses.

Welcome and good luck. I'm also hoping to make a switch from DE shaving to straight shaving soon.

    Hello, Pumpkin:

    Welcome to Straight Razor Place.

Please continue your research in the Wiki. Also if you have questions, post them. SRP is packed with experts whose knowledge of the straight razor world leaves one in awe.

Keep the double edge around to use when you're in a rush. As you know, with the straight razor, one must take a little more time. Good luck to you.

    Regards,
    Obie

    Welcome..
Use a light touch. Keep the DE handy for clean ups.
You will have arrived when you reach for the str8 to
    tidy up after your DE.

    Welcome!

Its sounds like you are doing your homework and are off to a good start, which is great!

As Obie says, take your time and dont rush. You'll get the results you want eventually, and with a lot less nicks and cuts if you take your time..!

Good luck and keep us posted!
