Thanked: 0Hello from Spain
I have been a safety razor man for years and I think it is time for a change to the old cut throat. But I'm a little put off by the paraphernalia and knowledge you show in all your posts: the right razor, strops, pastes, etc. And not only this, but sometimes I read contradictory information in different places, such as to strop only before the shave, never after, etc. So as you can see I'm quite confused, but willing to follow your advice.
Before daring to buy anything or asking any questions. Is there a thread where I can see the daily (weekly, etc.) routine to follow to properly maintain the edge in mint state.
Thank you.

Welcome to SRP.
Is isn't too hard to maintain a razor. Strop it before you use it. Dry off all the moisture after you have used it.
Also the Beginners guide in the Wiki is great.

Thanked: 1903Welcome to SRP,
Before you go through old forum posts (which, being discussion oriented, naturally contain contradictory information), I would go through the Wiki. Razor stropping - Straight Razor Place Wiki should get you started. Personal experience will teach you the rest. I do a few light laps on linen after shaving to dry the edge, but do not actually strop the razor. I do that before every shave. Another good idea is to use really hot water for the final rinse so that the residual heat in the razor will help the remaining moisture evaporate more quickly.
Regards,
Robin

Hello from Spain
Hello, Zas:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place.
As our learned colleagues have mentioned, the Wiki has a wealth of information and tutorials to help you start. Beyond that, trial and error are good teachers. Also, after a while, logic and personal preference will light your way to mastering the straight razor. Remember, no two shavers are alike, and that each has his or her opinion on everything. In time you, too, will have yours. You, too, will learn what works best for you.
All this is part of the ritual of wet shaving with a straight razor — and that adds to the pleasure of it.
Regards,
Obie

Zas,
Welcome to SRP. I understand what you mean, but don't let the diversity of opinions put you off. I've been wet shaving for about 5 years but only using a straight razor for 3 weeks. I could not have done it without the help and support of the members of SRP.
As others have said, read the WIKI. It's a wealth of information. Don't be afraid to post questions. I know I've exchanged some stupid questions for some sage advice
Happy shaving
Greg

Hello, Zas. Welcome.
You'll have no trouble finding all the information you'll need to shave with straight razors here. And, if you look and can't find information on a specific question, we're more than happy to help. Just ask.
My wife and I took the most memorable trip of our lifetimes to Spain some years back. Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona, Montserrat. Truly one of the best experiences of our lives.
Enjoy SRP.
