Thanked: 0Happy shaver in Australia
Back in July '08 I decided to try shaving with a straight razor after doing some research about eco-friendly sustainable shaving. I quickly realised that straight razors were not only more eco-friendly, but also gave a far superior shave. And they were enjoyable and rewarding as elegant tools that one could have pride in. I was hooked!
I'm not sure why I never found SRP in my voracious newbie reading/learning addiction back then, but I have recently discovered it while searching for tips on cleaning and restoring old razors. I thought I might as well join the crowd, and pop in to say hi.
Coincidentally, just a week ago I wrote a short piece about my straight razor experience to share with friends and family on my blog. If you're interested, that can be found at Shaving the bristles off a prickly eco-dilemma « Lachlan.Rogers.name
I'm currently experimenting with the art of reconditioning old razors to expand my set.

Welcome aboard mate. Hope you do well with your restorations. I cant seem to find many good razors anymore. Mostly crap on ebay and second hand shops dont seem to have them any more. Maybe out in the country but thats about it.

Thanked: 983G'day latch, welcome to the club. They aren't called, "cut-throats to denigrate their safety" though mate, They are called Cut-throats in Australia, Straights in America and Open razors in the U.K as a general rule with much cross contamination of the usage. Just a small point I know and not very important. Just thought you should know.

G'day & welcome to SRP Latch !
7.5 minutes is definitely not a long time for a shaveThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 0Thanks for this. I certainly called them cut-throats before I began using one.
I was trying to highlight the fact that straight razors are not as dangerous as people assume. I cut myself much less now than I did with cheap disposable razors!
But I was probably a bit too flexible with the facts.
