Thanked: 0My Story
Well here's my story.
I came across this forum about month ago and will confess that I've become addictive to this site. I'm not the type of person who usually joins any kind of forums. I decided to join this one because I will need help with just about everything pertaining to straight razors.
A little about myself. I live in a suburb of Chicago (Joliet, IL) and am 28yrs, married just about a year ago (Oct. 17th). I work in the flooring industry, so if you have any questions about flooring, I might be able to help answer any questions you have.
I was like many of people who couldn't decide which razor to start with. I was just about to buy a Davo Shavette (Item was in my checkout basket, all I need to do was type in credit card info) and decided against it. After reading all the reviews on how sharp the blades are and on how some people had to re-teach themsevles to shave again with a straight razor, I decided that there is only one way to go.
So I started looking for a good starter razor and once again was about to buy a dovo straight set from SRD and once again decided agaisnt it. My reason this time was that I didn't want to buy a new razor and ruin it stropping it. So I emailed Larry @ whippeddog.com and told him to send me what I need to get started. I bought a straight razor, strop kit, and shaving brush for $66.
So this is where I stand now. I emailed Larry on Sunday, package just came in today. My journey with straight razors has just begun...

Good luck. If you joined a month ago, I assume you've spent lots of time reading the wiki and advise from various experienced guys here. Just remember, no pressure and take it slow. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Welcome to SRP! It may take a little time and frustration to get the knack of it, but once you have it down you will never want to shave any other way. If you need help with anything, let us know.

Thanked: 1195Welcome aboard, shorts!
I'm also not the internet forum type - SRP is the only one I frequent and the only one I am a member of. I'm a little old fashioned that way. No worries though, you'll get the hang of it soon enough (both the forum and straight shaving) .
Happy shaving,
Ryan

Welcome to SRP shorts!
When I first started shaving with a str8 my mentor on SRP told me to hold the razor like a bird - tight enough so it won't get away, but not firm enough to hurt it. NEVER push the blade!
Pretty soon you'll be saying "Why didn't I discover this sooner!"

Welcome to SRP. Happy to have you aboard. Let us know how your straight razor shaving experience goes. There will be ups and downs, but all in all I think you will enjoy bonding with your razor an becoming proficient as a straight razor shaver.

Thanked: 14Well welcome to the club!
I'm glad to see more people from Illinois joining!
I'm from Chicago, and my cousin lives in Joliet. About a mile away from the main strip with the Walmart and the Portillos.
